Ripplen Niemann: Tiny Steps on a Long Journey
Ripplen is a 5-year-old cancer warrior whose path has been marked by unwavering determination. Diagnosed at age 4 with high-risk Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer, Ripplen has faced this challenge with remarkable strength, continuing to bring light and joy to those around him.
At Primary Children's Hospital, one of our partner hospitals in Utah, Ripplen began an intense and aggressive treatment regimen, which included chemotherapy, radiation, tumor resection, immunotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Ripplen’s parents and four siblings have been able to stay by Ripplen’s side throughout this tough journey, thanks in part to our donors. TRF Signature and Travel Grants have allowed the Niemann family to get Ripplen to and from treatment while also providing financial assistance to offset non-medical expenses.
Through it all, Ripplen's resilience has shone through. He enjoys playing with his trains, hiking with his family, and taking peaceful walks around the pond—a reminder of the simple joys that life offers. His mother, Jori, recently shared some joyous news: “We got the best news that he is finally in remission, and that’s where they want him to stay to continue to finish his treatment protocol.” While this is a significant milestone,
Ripplen's journey is far from over. His treatment will continue for at least two more years, with biweekly and monthly appointments. The long-term effects of his chemotherapy and transplant are considerable, leaving Ripplen with chronic health challenges. Despite all obstacles, Ripplen continues to prove every day that the smallest among us can have the biggest hearts.
