THE SPARROW:  April 2017 Edition

Introducing the Russell Family

We’d like to spotlight one of our newest TRF Kids, Braylen Russel!

Braylen was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on September 19, 2013. After diagnosis and a week in the hospital, he began chemotherapy. As part of his tests and treatments, Braylen endured multiple spinal taps, several bone marrow biopsies, and the onset of Kawasaki Disease, a rare childhood illness in which blood vessels throughout the body become inflamed.

Braylen was given a 90% chance of survival and a 3 ½ year intense treatment schedule from his doctors. During his first year of treatment, Braylen took two different oral doses of chemo medications daily and received chemotherapy injections three times a week.  Luckily he was able to upgrade to monthly chemo injections after his first year.

We’re excited to announce that Braylen took his final chemo injection in January of 2017 and underwent his final surgery in February.  While he will continue with follow up appointments every month for the next five years, we’re excited that he gets to step back into the life of a normal little boy.

Braylen’s family was recently recognized in a half-time ceremony at a Utah Jazz basketball game where several of the TRF team members were able to spend some time with his family. DONATIONS like yours allow TRF to support amazing families like the Russell family so they can focus their energy on what matters most.
